[001] - abcm2ps 3.7.20 (Stable)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Mon, Nov 22nd 2004 01:33

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: This release accepts '&)' as the end of voice overlay.

About: The abcMIDI suite consists of programs for turning ABC music files
into MIDI and vice versa, typesetting them as PostScript files, and
manipulate them in several ways.

Changes: This release introduces an extension to chord syntax that allows
expressions such as "[C3E3G3]" to be written as "[CEG]3".

[003] - Andy's Simple PHP Knowledgebase 0.36
  by KeyMonkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/keymonkey/)
  Mon, Nov 22nd 2004 05:59

About: Andy's Simple PHP Knowledgebase is a database-driven knowledge base
management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing by category, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.

Changes: This release fixes some minor problems with article display,
including tag handling. The article field has been changed from "blob" to
"largetext", and HTML is now removed prior to article display. There are
some improvements to the documentation and a cleanup of connection and
authentication references. For the Admin, a Delete function was added, and
a default Category is used when editing an already existing article.

[004] - AOLserver 4.0.9
  by Dossy Shiobara (http://freshmeat.net/users/dossy/)
  Mon, Nov 22nd 2004 20:48

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: AOLserver is a multithreaded, Tcl-enabled, massively scalable and
extensible Web server tuned for large scale, dynamic Web sites. It
includes complete database integration, dynamic page scripting, and an
open, extensible architecture.

Changes: This release closes a number of small bugs and adds a few
enhancements. Bugfixes were made for a shutdown crash, a memory leak when
using getaddrinfo, a server hang for ns_http, crashes that could occur
with bad invocations of ns_schedule_{proc,daily,weekly}, and omission of
the Content-Length header if ADP streaming is on. Ns_ConnSend() now does
what the docs say it does. Enhancements include a new Ns_Compress() to
gzip data, a new Ns_SockCancelCallbackEx() to correctly cancel callbacks,
and the ability to write corefiles on Linux after setuid by setting
PR_SET_DUMPABLE.

Communications :: Chat
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards

About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. Demo site content is plain text, but AudienceConnect can be
extended to deliver any digital content: sound files, image files, etc.
Installation is very simple; no database technologies are used. The
related modules are completely independent and require only access to
Python 1.5.2 in your cgi-bin.

Changes: There is a bugfix for the removal of properties in AC_Editor CGI.
There are minor refinements in AC_Editor, AC_PostPal, AC_PublicStats, and
AC_Submit.

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Build Interceptor captures the .i files of any project while it is
built from source using the gcc toolchain. Anyone who has tried this on a
large scale will find out that it is non-trivial to build a project from
source and obtain the .i files generated during the build process.
Step-by-step instructions are given on how to use the provided scripts to
do this without any modification to the build process of the project you
are trying to capture. These scripts were used to capture the build
process of 92.5% of the projects in the Red Hat Linux 7.3 distribution.

  Mon, Nov 22nd 2004 01:36

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: CodeWorker is a versatile parsing tool and a universal source code
generator. It interprets a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. The file formats to parse are described in an extended-BNF
syntax. Template-based scripts drive the writing of patterns for
generating code or text. The code generation knows how to preserve
protected areas with hand-typed code and provides code expansion,
source-to-source translation, and program transformation. It provides a
native translation of CodeWorker's scripts in C++.

Changes: Some bugs were fixed in the native C++ translation of scripts for
building a standalone executable. Some small bugs were corrected, notably
one on 'setall', the operator for copying a whole parse tree.

Software Development :: Compilers

About: Compound Init is a small package for implementing the semantics of
Compound Initializer syntax as described in the C99 standard, section
6.7.8, including Designated Initializers and the gcc Range Initializer
extension to the syntax. That is, ip maps from a type tree and a compound
initializer abstract syntax tree to a sequence of pairs of leaf types and
leaf initializers. It is designed for maximum ease of inclusion into an
existing compiler.

[015] - Cyrus IMAP Server 2.2.9 (2.2)
  by brashear (http://freshmeat.net/users/derrickbra/)
  Mon, Nov 22nd 2004 16:29

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Internet

About: The Cyrus IMAP server is generally intended to be run on sealed
systems, where normal users are not permitted to log in. The mailbox
database is stored in parts of the filesystem that are private to Cyrus.
All user access to mail is through the IMAP, POP3, or KPOP protocols. The
private mailbox database design gives the server large advantages in
efficiency, scalability, and administratability. Multiple concurrent
read/write connections to the same mailbox are permitted. The server
supports access control lists on mailboxes and storage quotas on mailbox
hierarchies, multiple SASL mechanisms, and the Sieve mail filtering
language.

Changes: This release cleans up IMAP magic plus to avoid buffer overrun
(CAN-2004-1011). The lack of bounds checking in PARTIAL and FETCH has been
fixed (CAN-2004-1012 and CAN-2004-10 13). It no longer attempts reuse of a
freed connection in lmtpproxyd.

Education
Multimedia
Software Development

About: EGachine is a game machine/engine with a focus on 2D multi-player
(networked) games. It is easy for beginners to start with game programing
and allows users to write multi- player networked games quickly. For
advanced programmers, OpenGL/MESA language bindings are included. It can
also be useful in a non-gaming context as a presentation tool or a movie
player similar to Flash.

Changes: A completely new design is used. EGachine is now based upon a
simple (currently non-interactive) JavaScript shell (EJS). The purpose of
EJS is to get a JavaScript shell which is extensible in the spirit of
other interpreters like Perl and Python. The module framework is kept as
simple as possible to encourage code-reuse among people using the
SpiderMonkey API directly, even if they don't use EJS. The Debian binary
package was split into four packages (ejs, ejs-multimedia, egachine-base,
egachine) to reflect this change.

  Mon, Nov 22nd 2004 14:02

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.

Changes: One type of filter error would cause getmail to skip to the next
configured mail account, rather than simply proceeding to the next message
from the same account. This has been fixed. There documentation updates.

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTTP client is a PHP class to make HTTP requests. It can submit
requests via a proxy server, establish secure connections (HTTPS) via a
non-SSL proxy server, or using PHP with OpenSSL support, or using the Curl
library with optional SSL client certificates. It supports several types of
HTTP authentication via the SASL library, like HTTP Basic and NTLM (Windows
or Samba). It submits POST requests with user-defined form values, file
uploading, or with user-defined request bodies. It retrieves the HTTP
response headers and body data separately. It handles cookies and
automatic redirection handling.

use the PHP SASL class library so the HTTP client class can support other
authentication mechanisms besides (HTTP) Basic, such as NTLM (Windows or
Samba).

those vulnerabilities. The patch can also add a little bit more privacy to
the system by restricting access to parts of /proc so that users may not
see what others are doing.

Changes: This release was updated to Linux 2.4.28-ow1, which fixed a
number of security-related bugs with the ELF loader, Unix domain sockets,
and smbfs support. While the confirmed impact of these is limited to
reading +s-r binaries and crashing systems, there is a potential for a
root compromise by a local user or by a malicious/compromised smbfs
server.

  Mon, Nov 22nd 2004 03:49

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: The purpose of the SurakWare Base Library (SWL/libswl) is to serve
as a platform independent framework for C++ and QPascal. The SWL includes
both thin layers over functionality exposed by the Linux and Windows
operating systems as well as higher level classes for many purposes. Save
for a few exceptions, the SWL is completely indpedenent from the STL and
the C/C++ runtime library. Platform independence has been achieved by
encapsulating OS-specific implementation details in a number of SWL
classes. There should never be a need to use "#ifdef"s to distinguish
between platforms.

Changes: This version re-enables file locking support in TFileStream (on
Unix), adds missing implementations in [System.Runtime] and
[System.FileSystem], fixes multiple bugs in String, TThread, TPointer,
TWaitCondition, TTextSettingsSource, and TAutoPtr, includes an improved
I/ O multiplexer, adds minor fixes to the libswl.m4 and libswl- config
scripts, renames TDateTime.from/toEpoch to from/ toUnixTime, adds a global

[089] - The Frink Language 2004-11-15
  by Alan Eliasen (http://freshmeat.net/users/eliasen/)

Scientific/Engineering

About: Frink is a calculating tool and programming language designed to
help you in the real world. It tracks units of measurement throughout all
calculations and ensures that answers are correct. It converts between
systems of measurement and has a huge library of physical data. It handles
conversions between time zones, currencies, and historical values of the
U.S. dollar and the British pound, translates between several languages,
does date/time math, and more.

Changes: Some debug information that was being printed when Java methods
were called was removed. A case where using a repeated pattern-match using
the /g modifier could cause null pointer exceptions was fixed. The JNLP
file was modified to take advantage of some new features of Java Web
Start. The ARGS global variable was added, which contains command-line
arguments passed to the program. Several optimizations were also made to
the date parser to reduce memory usage, and optimizations were made in
expression evaluation.

made, such as adding label tags to checkboxes so clicking on the label
checks or unchecks the checkbox and adding "close window" links to all the
popup help screens. A focus bug that prevented the cursor from being placed
in the first available text box, password box, or selection list when a

  Mon, Nov 22nd 2004 06:39

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: Some bugs were fixed. The logging of XINS call requests was
improved. The performance of the "xins" shell script and of the release
process was improved. Support for ACL definitions in external files was
added.

  Mon, Nov 22nd 2004 11:02

Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Shells

About: Zoidberg (a.k.a. zoid) provides a modular Perl shell written,
configured, and operated entirely in Perl. It aspires to be a fully
operational login shell with all the features one normally expects. But it
also gives direct access to Perl objects and data structures from the
command line, and allows you to run Perl code within the scope of your
command line.

Changes: Many bugfixes in this release, especially in the quoting
behaviour and the redirection parsing. A new feature is the ability to
change the namespace used for Perl statements; the export builtin also now
uses this Perl namespace. An example was added to demonstrate use of the
API to create custom shell applications.
