24th October, 2008: Tenable CSO to Keynote Hack in the Box Conference 2008 Malaysia

24th October, 2008: Plugins available for MS08-067

On thursday, Microsoft released a critical patch (MS08-067) for a remotely exploitable flaw in Windows.

The Tenable research team released two plugins to check for this flaw :

  • Plugin #34477, which does not require any credential, which remotely determines if a Windows 2000, XP or 2003 host is vulnerable to the overflow.

  • Plugin #34476, which requires credentials, determines if the patch has properly been installed on the remote host by checking the version of the NetApi32.dll

    Both plugins are available in the HomeFeed and ProfessionalFeed.

    Tenable's Research Group has released three new beta plugins to all ProfessionalFeed and Security Center users that automate the process of preparing a PCI-DSS audit.

    25th September, 2008: Tenable releases Nessus Virtual Appliance

    Tenable Network Security has released a virtual appliance for the Nessus 3 vulnerability scanner. The VMware appliance is available to ProfessionalFeed and Security Center customers.

    The appliance image allows for rapid deployments and effortless management of Nessus 3 scanners in virtual environments. Users do not need to concern themselves with managing an operating system and can focus on managing their scanner configurations, operation and performance.

    18th August, 2008: NessusClient 3.2.1.1 released for Ubuntu 8.04 and Fedora 9

    Today, Tenable released NessusClient 3.2.1.1 for Ubuntu 8.04 and Fedora 9.

    This new version fixes an incompatibility arising with KDE on these particular platforms.   More Information

    21st July, 2008: Nessus 3.2.1.1 (Windows) released

    Nessus 3.2.1.1, an errata release for Windows, is now available.

    This version fixes the following Windows-specific bugs:

    - With some configurations, Nessus would fail to determine that remote hosts are up

    - When the same service runs on different ports, not every instance would be scanned

    - Nessus 3.2.1 would not be able to import Nessus 3.0.x reports

    Tenable Network Security has released PatchDiff2 for the IDA disassembler.

    PatchDiff2 is a high performance binary patch analysis tool developed and used by the Tenable Research Team when analyzing binary patches.

    30th May, 2008: Nessus 3.2.1 released

    Tenable Network Security, Inc. is proud to announce the availability of Nessus 3.2.1.

    This new version contains a new report filtering mechanism in the client, adds support for Fedora 9 and Ubuntu 8.04 and re-introduces support for Windows 2000, and fixes several bugs.

    Every Nessus 3.2.0 user is encouraged to update to this version. You can download Nessus 3.2.1 from here.

    This new major releases contains several improvements, including:

    Tenable is proud to announce the immediate availability of Nessus 3.1.9 beta.


    The main changes compared to 3.1.5 are the following :

    - Debian 4 and Fedora 8 builds
    - Fixed several issues with counting the maximum number of TCP
    sessions in parallel
    - New nessusd.conf options (nasl_log_type, stop_scan_on_hang)
    - During a scan, the number of TCP sessions in parallel shows up if log_whole_attack is set
    - The 'nessus' command-line tool can now import .nessus files
    - 'nessuscmd' can upload ssh keys and .audit files on the remote server
